The hospitals that make up BSW Hospitals Group - Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals NHS foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust - are working on the biggest digital programme to date – implementing a new, integrated Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system.
What is an EPR?
The EPR is a digital tool which will essentially replace paper-based patient records over time.
This technology will bring many benefits to our staff, patients and communities, ultimately helping us provide better, safer joined-up care for everyone.
An EPR is a digital platform that brings patient information together in one place, including notes and assessments, results of investigations, prescribed medications and more.
The NHS is supporting the roll-out of Electronic Patient Records (EPRs) to help innovate against the changing needs of our population, maximise the benefits of digital transformation for patients and clinicians, and harness the power of data.
How will it make a difference?
Using one single EPR, is going to transform the way we work together, standardising care processes and helping to give patients a high-quality and consistent experience with the best possible health outcomes.
It will also help ensure people have an improved, safer experience of care, more convenient access to care, and the support of new tools that allow them to manage their own health and wellbeing needs.
This is not simply a digital programme; it’s one of the biggest pieces of clinical and operational transformation we will ever complete, and it is vital we work together on the changes that will come.
